CLARIN-IT is pleased to announce the Summer School 2024 'Digital Tools for Humanists', which will be held in Pisa as well as in a virtual format from 3 to 12 June 2024.
The Summer School is organized by the University of Pisa under the direction of LABCD (Laboratory for Digital Culture) with the support of CLARIN-IT and under the patronage of AIUCD (Italian Association for Digital Humanities and Culture), AIPH (Italian Association of Public History) and CISPH (Interuniversity Centre for Research and Development of Public History).
The number of participants is limited and registrations will be accepted until all available places are filled.
On Monday 3rd June 2024, from 14:00 to 18:00, Monica Monachini (CNR-ILC | CLARIN-IT | H2IOSC), Francesca Frontini (CNR-ILC | CLARIN ERIC | H2IOSC), Giulia Pedonese (CNR-ILC | H2IOSC) and Angelo Mario Del Grosso (CNR-ILC) will hold the module Research Infrastructures supporting FAIR and Open data, tools, practices in the humanities and social sciences. The case of CLARIN.
This 4-hour module is intended as an introduction to Research Infrastructures (RI) in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities.
After a brief summary on FAIR and Open data, participants will learn how to incorporate and leverage IR data, knowledge and practices into their research.
More specifically, the module will focus on CLARIN, the European Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure, through practical sub-modules in which participants will learn how to find certain resources, access them, exploit them with interoperable tools and reuse them.
Central CLARIN tools such as the Virtual Language Observatory (VLO) and the Switchboard will be introduced, but an overview of CLARIN extensive network of Data and Knowledge Centres (including those managed within the CLARIN Italian Consortium) will also be provided.
Particular attention will be paid to search and interrogation of historical documents, both written and oral, but highly interoperable resources will be introduced as well, such as the ParlaMint corpus, an example of good practices in the sector, particularly suitable for diachronic and comparative studies of Contemporary History and Social Sciences.
The module will be concluded with an overview of current RIs, extending its focus beyond CLARIN, in particular on the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Marketplace and on national initiatives such as the PNRR IR project H2IOSC - Humanities and Cultural Heritage Italian Open Science Cloud, with particular attention to training materials as a special type of resources shared and maintained by RIs.
